The net-like outer covering of the Nutmeg seed, once dried, becomes the spice known as Mace. It is often described as a less intensely concentrated version of nutmeg, though it also has notes of cinnamon and black pepper. Popularly used in ground form, it is highly used in baked goods and as a key component in many spice mixes.
