Fair for Life

Verger is a proud Fair for Life certified organization. The certification is provided for for fair trade in agriculture, manufacturing and trade and was created in 2006 by the Swiss Bio-Foundation in cooperation with the IMO Group, then taken over by the Ecocert Group in 2014 to meet a specific demand from organic farming stakeholders.

Beyond the inherent concept of fair pricing, and from the very beginning of its creation, Fair for Life has been aware of the notion of “responsible supply chains”: having a long-term vision, making a sincere commitment and acting responsibly throughout the supply chain. This has always resonated with the founding values and principles of Verger and being aligned with Fair for Life enables us to keep up to date and accountable towards our goals.

Fair for Life funds at Verger are used to run projects supporting not only our employees but also our farmers.

In the 2022 and 2023 periods we ran 3 key projects, dry ration distribution, soil fertility improvement and farming equipment distribution.

40% of the fund was utilized to provide dry rations to 111 employees at Verger, the rations provided support and relief as we faced the challenges of the Sri Lankan economic crises.

In the Soraguna SFU a key concern for farmers was the issue of soil fertility. Following a soil fertility assessment by the Department of Export Agriculture and based on the recommendation provided 13.95 mega tons of dolomite was distributed amongst 61 farmers, along with 29 mamoties.

For our third project 127 mamoties and 20 knives were distributed amongst farmers across multiple farming clusters.

We cultivate smiles.

Verger nurtures everything we touch, from seeds and saplings, to lives and livelihoods.
